Municipal library “Paissiy Hilendarski” officially existed since 1859 – when foundedthe community center “The Seven Saints” (now theCommunity center – Monument “Otets Paissiy”) in Samokov. Along with the storage, organizing and providing in free access of library and information resources, the municipal library organize reading marathon, exhibitions, meetings with authors and presentation of new books, celebrating anniversaries and evenings dedicated to famous artists and many other cultural activities.
Samokov library implements many initiatives for the establishment of early childhood reading habits, curiosity for new knowledge and love for books, school and life. Municipal Library is an active herald of the book, of knowledge and creativity among children and young people of Samokov municipality through their involvement in various cultural events.
Samokov library is the winner in category “e-culture” at National Forum “Glob @ l Libraries – Bulgaria: a place for e-Inclusion” that took place on 30 October 2012 in Sofia. It reveals the work of public libraries to preserve and promote the cultural traditions of the local community and to encourage the development of the creative potential of children with the help of new technologies.
